A Fresh, More Family-Friendly Kitchen

“The Johnson’s new kitchen is really nice,” Danielle suddenly says.

David has to agree, mostly because that was what the Johnson’s talked about for a good part of the night. The soft-close cabinets, the granite countertops, the new cabinets with their new paint, and so on.

They both agree they love the kitchen island because it has more counter space. This means they can help the kids with homework while making dinner, have more space for food prep, or even eat breakfast there together. Danielle finally mentions what’s been on both of their minds: remodeling their own kitchen.

David thinks about it for a minute before agreeing. It’s been a while since they last did anything with their kitchen and now feels like the right time to do it. If it means more chances to be a family then he is in. Plus a fresh-feeling kitchen is nice too.

But first, they need to find some ideas. They get on the Internet and start searching for kitchen remodeling ideas near them (so they can see real remodeling ideas in their area).

1. Kitchen Backsplashes

The first kitchen remodeling idea they run across is refacing their kitchen backsplash. Some of their favorite kitchen backsplash ideas are:

“These are so much better than our current one,” David comments. Their current one is just a bunch of little white squares that could use at least a new coat of paint.

But it’s this last one that really catches their eye:

Kitchen remodeling ideas include a new backsplash like this white tile one with green diamonds

They both really like the white tile look for their kitchen and the green diamonds help break it up so it isn’t as uniform. It would work better for them without the wood cabinet look, which is why they decide to explore kitchen cabinets next.

2. Painting Your Kitchen Cabinets

Out of all the kitchen remodeling ideas anyone can find this one has the most impact:

“Wow, white or black would make a huge difference in the look of our wood stained cabinets,” Danielle gasps in amazement. It would certainly give their kitchen a more modern feel.

They like this next look the most because it would work wonderfully with the green diamond backsplash they both like:

The black cabinets on the bottom blend nicely with the green cabinets on top. They’d also contrast nicely with the white tiles for the backsplash.

But as far as kitchen remodeling ideas go, the next one they find could be the most helpful.

3. Kitchen Islands

Practical for spending time together as a family and for making meals, kitchen islands could be exactly what David and Danielle want.

Kids can use the island to do homework and study on (though we all know it’s more for making sure they’re actually doing it).

It’s also great for socializing around. People can sit at it like a counter or use it to hold their drink or plate while they stand around and talk.

Let’s not forget that sometimes you just need more room when you cook. This kitchen remodeling idea can give you that and so much more.

“But what about all the free space it’ll take up in the kitchen?” David argues.

Danielle brings up the point that it would just be empty space anyway. Sure you have to go a few more steps to get around it but with all the benefits it can bring this small downside doesn’t hurt anything.

They still move on to find one more idea that’s great for looks and cooking: recessed lighting.

4. Recessed Lighting For A Better View

“This would make cooking so much easier because we could see everything with less shadow,” Danielle points out:

“The hanging lights are nice too because it provides more direct light on the island,” David points out. Better, more even lighting makes it easier to see how well food is cooked and what it actually looks like. It also makes reading recipes or textbooks easier on the eyes.

Which Kitchen Remodeling Ideas Would You Choose?

Danielle and David are going to eventually do all of these ideas, but they have to figure out where they want to start. They decide on the kitchen island because it’s the most useful for them.

We would love to know which of these kitchen remodeling ideas (or one of your own) you want or have had for your kitchen remodel.
