A Finished Basement Man Cave For A…
“Let’s make a deal then,” Chris offers.
“What kind of deal,” Jess (his wife) replies cautiously. “He’s been watching too much of that ‘Deal Or No Deal’ show,” she thinks. “It’s a deal where we can both get something we want,” Chris replies, raising Jess’ curiosity.
“I’m listening,” she says, raising an eyebrow. “A basement man cave for a kitchen remodel.” Jess stands there in silence, as though waiting for more. Chris finally breaks the silence, “Well, thoughts on finishing our basement?” “A full kitchen remodel?” she finally asks. “How about we spend the same amount for each, my ideas for finishing a basement and your ideas for a kitchen remodel?” Chris replies.
As soon as Jess starts twisting her hair around her finger Chris knows he’s won. “She only does that when she’s seriously considering something, and that means it’s worth considering,” he thinks happily, though nervously. It could go the other way just as easily.
“Deal. Let’s do it hon!” Jess says with a small smile. “YES!” Chris says with a small fist pump. “I’ve already got some ideas to show you.”

1. The Home Theater Idea For The Finished Basement
“The main attraction here: the home theater system,” Chris begins.
“This is one of your big ideas for finishing a basement?” Jess asks, not impressed. “It looks empty right now, but it’ll have a projector between those two speakers near the ceiling and the screen will take up most of the wall. A fireplace can be there too to make it seem more gentlemanly.”
“Ok, not bad I guess. It’ll make you feel more in the action when you’re watching football with the boys,” Jess replies, nodding her head.
“Now for my next big idea,” Chris continues excitedly.
2. A Fully Stocked Bar With Storage
“What’s football without a couple of cold ones, am I right?”
“I suppose so,” Jess agrees. “Well, this bar here can hold beer or cider or even wine in the wine rack. We’ll also be able to put food and stuff in the cabinets. Don’t worry about cleaning either, I’ll make sure one of the cabinets has supplies for quickly cleaning spills and stains,” Chris says.
“Wine? Hmm, now you’ve got me interested in visiting your man cave,” Jess jokes. “But really, if we put the wine down there then I’m definitely using the basement for a girls night,” she thinks.
“What’s football without a couple of cold ones, am I right?”
“I suppose so,” Jess agrees. “Well, this bar here can hold beer or cider or even wine in the wine rack. We’ll also be able to put food and stuff in the cabinets. Don’t worry about cleaning either, I’ll make sure one of the cabinets has supplies for quickly cleaning spills and stains,” Chris says.
“Wine? Hmm, now you’ve got me interested in visiting your man cave,” Jess jokes. “But really, if we put the wine down there then I’m definitely using the basement for a girls night,” she thinks.
“I knew you’d like that,” Chris beams. “Now for my final idea, one of the most important parts: the flooring.”
3. Wood Flooring Or Carpeting?
“Is this really one of your ideas for finishing a basement?” Jess asks doubtfully.
“I believe it’s important to think about what your feet are going to be touching for long amounts of time. You can be comfortable on carpeting with bare feet or socks, but then you have to worry about stains and such. Hardwood, on the other hand, may not be as comfortable but it is much easier to maintain.
“Plus, there’ll be recessed lights in the ceiling so the lighting will be even and won’t have down from the ceiling or anything.”
“You’ve really thought this through, haven’t you?” Jess praises.
“I have indeed,” Chris replies. “It’s my favorite of the 5 home addition ideas I looked through.”
“Well,” Jess begins, “Let’s sit down, figure out a budget, and then see what we ideas for finishing a basement we can work in for your man cave.” The couple sits down and does just that, though Jess starts to plan a kitchen remodel at the same time.
